Going back to the 8th century, Shigaraki is home to one of the the six ancient kilns and thus one of the oldest pottery producing places in Japan. Since then, thanks to the untiring efforts of successive generations of potters, the kiln never ceased to burn and the know-how was passed down from craftsman to craftsman till the present day.

The Uzan kiln has inherited the traditional techniques of Shigaraki but while keeping the traditions alive, the Uzanyou workshop proposes ceramics that incorporate the Japanese concept of « Yo-no-bi » where functionality (Yo) is combined beauty (Bi) to meet the needs today's lifestyles. Constantly searching for innovation and new sensitivities in their work, Uzanyou’s goal is to create vessels that continue to grow with their users and that have the capacity of gently illuminating the objects placed in them.

THE TRANSLUCENT SAKE FLASK - A NEW WAY
TO ENJOY SAKE

The beautifully designed sake flask with its translucent texture and gentle white color is a new style to enjoy chilled sake.

The Shigaraki translucent series is not made of conventional light-permeable porcelain but a particular blend of clay and optical fiber that allows light to pass through.

Mainly made from optical fiber its light transmittance is 2.5~3 times higher than that of porcelain, allowing light to pass through even thicker textures.

A new revolutionary new ceramic style developed at the Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute in 2009 that has opened a new chapter in the long history of Shigaraki pottery.

Caution for use
・Although unglazed the Shigaraki ware is hardened so that liquids will not seep into the vessel.
・Coffee, wine, etc. may stain the uneven surface. For cleaning, please use a melamine sponge or bleach.
・We recommend to clean the cup right after use to prevent the leftovers from drying out.
・Small black spots and little white clumps sometimes appear on the surface of the vessel. They are natural components and do not pose a problem of use.
