Inspired by the traditional 'Wagasa’ umbrella, the Kotori HG Pendant Light is characterized by a subtle bamboo framework and soft light filtered through handmade Japanese paper. Its intricate opening and closing mechanism, utilizing the craftsmanship of Kyoto umbrella making, offers the delightful surprise of an instant expansion and makes sure the Kotori lamp shade can be folded compactly. This pendant seamlessly fits not only in Japanese-style rooms but also in modern design spaces, emitting a timeless beauty.
You no Bi, Embracing Japanese Aesthetics in the KOTORI Lighting Series
Utilizing natural materials, the KOTORI pendant showcases the principle of ‘You no bi’, a Japanese aesthetic found in products that harmonize beauty with practicality. Hiyoshiya’s KOTORI HG series exudes contemporary elegance and complements various settings. The lampshade employs advanced techniques of the Kyo-wagasa making. Noteworthy for its elaborate bamboo bone structure, it diffuses a warm light through washi paper.
A Versatile Mid-Size Flagship Model for Diverse Utilization
HG (High Grade) is the flagship model of Hiyoshiya’s KOTORI series. This line is made with bamboo sourced from Kyoto and first-class handmade washi paper. Following the Wagasa making process, a single bamboo is evenly divided to create the Oyabone (main bone structure) and approximately 40 pairs of Kobone (small bone structures), which craftsmen meticulously sew together one by one. The process concludes by affixing washi paper onto these structures.
The medium size pendant (diameter 530mm × height 280mm) is convenient for use in any space, from the living room to the dining room. The KOTORI pendant possesses ample presence when used alone, yet in larger spaces like atriums and halls, combining the several pendants will create an artistic ambiance.
Efficient Illumination: One 60W Bulb Brightens a Medium Size Spaces Comfortably
The HG pendant light employs a single 60W light bulb, emitting a soothing glow ideal for illuminating spaces spanning up to 8 tatami mats or 13 sqm. It offers a comparatively softer illumination compared to conventional lighting systems, a quality appreciated in Japan that values the beauty of subtle shading. In larger rooms, combining the KOTORI pendant with partial lighting creates an elegant and sophisticated ambiance.
Embrace Tradition: Experience Shade Transformations with the Japanese Umbrella-inspired Opening
The KOTORI pendant. crafted by a Wagasa artisans, is. equipped with a unique opening and closing design. By removing the shade from the lightbulb, it can be stored compactly, allowing for versatile changes in shade to suit various seasons and moods.
