Bring the beauty of utility born from the craftsmanship of Kyoto umbrellas to a high-quality lifestyle
"KOTORI" is a pendant lamp that uses Kyoto umbrella technology. It features the delicate bamboo that spreads out in a radial pattern and the soft light that shines through the washi paper. The modern "beauty of utility" created by natural materials and Japanese sensibilities fits in well with tasteful Japanese-style rooms as well as modern design spaces, creating a timeless beauty.
Naturally created waterfalls
The "Rakusui Paper" series uses special washi paper made using the "rakusui technique," in which water droplets are dropped onto the paper while it is still damp to create holes and patterns.
This technique creates delicate and beautiful patterns with a sense of transparency, which create unique shadows and warmth when light passes through them. The patterns created by the movement and spread of the water droplets are unique, and no two pieces are the same; each is a unique product of chance and the craftsman's skill. The unique beauty that can only be achieved through handwork is what makes this piece so appealing.
Color variations that reflect the four seasons of Japan
We offer four colors inspired by the four seasons of Japan. The soft shadows of the light shining through the Rakusui paper envelop the entire room, creating a nostalgic yet new feel to the Japanese colors.
Beautiful yet fleeting flowers dancing in the wind "Hanafu | Pink"
Feel the coolness of the sunlight filtering through the trees at Koume | Green
Art woven by nature, vibrant "Autumn leaves | Orange"
Clouds floating in the silent sky "Ukigumo | White"
A flagship model mini lamp that can be used as a focal point
The flagship model of the "KOTORI" series, the HG (High Grade) series, is made from carefully selected Kyoto-grown madake bamboo and the finest handmade washi paper. Like a Japanese umbrella, a single bamboo stalk is evenly split and processed into ribs and small ribs, which are then individually joined by craftsmen using cotton thread and finished with washi paper. This mini lamp-type product from the HG series is perfect as a night light for bedside tables, on top of cabinets, or in hallways.
Can be used like a lantern, with the brightness of one 40W bulb
This product emits a gentle light from a single 40W bulb, and acts as a spotlight like a lantern. In large spaces, combining it with a pendant light that shines from the ceiling will add definition to the impression of the room.
It can be opened and closed like a Japanese umbrella, so you can have fun changing the shade.
"KOTORI" is handmade one by one by Japanese umbrella craftsmen, and one of its features is that it can be opened and closed like a Japanese umbrella. It can be removed from the light and folded up for compact storage, so you can have fun changing the shade to suit the season or your mood.

Japanese design that has won awards both at home and abroad
"KOTORI" was launched in 2006 with the hope that people would not be confined to the traditional world of the ancient capital, but would spread their wings and fly out into the world like little birds. When you open a Japanese umbrella, the contrast between the washi paper and bamboo that catches your eye, and the beauty of the soft light that shines down from it. To allow more people to enjoy this, Hiyoshiya came up with the idea of "lighting." A team of craftsmen, brand producers, lighting designers, coordinators, and others came together to overcome many challenges to complete "KOTORI," which has won numerous awards, including the Good Design Award - Small and Medium Enterprise Agency Commissioner's Special Award, and is currently loved in approximately 15 countries around the world.
