This traditional bamboo stool, known as shōgi, has long been used as a seat at outdoor tea ceremonies called nodate. The natural color and smooth texture of Kyoto-grown bamboo add grace and authenticity to the tea setting. When paired with a nodate umbrella and felt carpet, it creates an even more refined and tranquil atmosphere.
Crafted from Kyoto White Bamboo
We use only carefully selected Kyoto-grown bamboo, chosen for the balance of its nodes, its luster, and the environment in which it was nurtured. Among these, we feature white bamboo (shirotake), made by boiling fresh green bamboo to remove its natural oils. 
Its soft, off-white tone gently deepens into a warm amber with age, gaining richness and character the more it is used. As no two pieces of bamboo are ever alike, each stool carries its own individuality, allowing you to enjoy the natural beauty and graceful transformation of the material over time.
Finished with skilled craftsmanship
Each stool is hand-finished by skilled artisans. The bamboo is bent over flame, treated for durability, and carefully shaped one piece at a time. The quality of each material is discerned even before processing begins, ensuring its innate character is brought out to the fullest. This uncompromising craftsmanship results in a stool of exceptional reliability and elegance.
