Going back to the 8th century, Shigaraki is home to one of the the six ancient kilns and thus one of the oldest pottery producing places in Japan. Since then, thanks to the untiring efforts of successive generations of potters, the kiln never ceased to burn and the know-how was passed down from craftsman to craftsman till the present day.

The Uzan kiln has inherited the traditional techniques of Shigaraki but while keeping the traditions alive, the Uzanyou workshop proposes ceramics that incorporate the Japanese concept of « Yo-no-bi » where functionality (Yo) is combined beauty (Bi) to meet the needs today's lifestyles. Constantly searching for innovation and new sensitivities in their work, Uzanyou’s goal is to create vessels that continue to grow with their users and that have the capacity of gently illuminating the objects placed in them.

THE ROCK CUP - BEAUTIFUL TO BEHOLD AND PLEASANT TO HOLD

The beautiful blue glaze reminiscent of a clear lake is obtained during the firing process in the kiln. Each piece is one of a kind with multiple expressions that can only achieved through handcrafted expertise.
Depending on the light, the depth and spectrum of the stunning blue color change.
